Dr. Tracy Heiman is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience caring for premature and critically ill newborns and a mother who’s walked the NICU journey herself. Her dual perspective as both provider and parent has shaped her passion for making the NICU experience more understandable and less overwhelming for families.
Through her children's book series, NICU Adventures: Sibling Stories of Love and Hope, Dr. Heiman brings the world of the NICU to life through a sibling’s eyes. Each story focuses on a different medical theme or developmental milestone, offering a gentle and relatable way for children and their families to connect with what’s happening emotionally and medically.
Dr. Heiman created this series to fill a gap she witnessed daily in her work: while NICU teams provide life-saving care, they often struggle to explain complex information in ways families, especially young siblings, can fully grasp. These books aim to bridge that gap with stories filled with warmth, clarity, and compassion.
Alongside her books, Dr. Heiman shares her insights and experiences on her blog, providing a supportive space for education, encouragement, and real conversations about NICU life. Her work continues to empower families with the knowledge, confidence, and emotional support they need through every step of their journey.
“Unless you’ve lived it, it’s hard to truly understand how overwhelming, exhausting, and heartbreaking it is to have a child in the NICU. My goal is to bring light, clarity, and comfort to families walking that path, so they never feel alone in the unknown.” - Dr. Tracy Heiman
